Pre-Tax Commuter Benefit Program

The State of Delaware’s Pre-Tax Commuter Benefit Program allows you to save 25% or more on the money you set aside to help pay for your out-of-pocket parking, van pooling or mass transit expenses incurred as you travel to work. The money is deducted from your paycheck on a pre-tax basis, meaning you avoid paying Federal and State income tax and FICA taxes on the money you set aside.

All permanent part-time (15 hours or more each week) or full-time limited term or permanent full-time (30 hours or more each week) employees are eligible to participate in this program. You can enroll in the program at any time through ASI’s website (https://secure.asiflex.com?ecode=DETRA). You can make a change to your deduction amount at any time. Any changes must be received by the 15th of a month to be effective the next month. For 2009, you can set aside up to $230 per month for parking expenses and $120 per month for van pooling and/or mass transit expenses.

Participation in the pre-tax commuter program is required if you ride in the Fleet Link van pool. You do not enroll through ASI’s website. You authorize this pre-tax deduction when you sign the contract with Fleet Link. In this case, ASI collects the money and reimburses the State of Delaware directly.
